About Greenman Bushcraft

Greenman Bushcraft is a concept that has accumulated naturally over time, and in 2007, Kris Miners founded the company in an attempt to start a slightly different school of outdoor learning. Kris has studied the ancient art of bushcraft and other primitive skills since the early age of 4 years, when his grandfather first introduced him to sorrel (Rumex acetosa), which was Kris's first taste of wild food. Since then, the old ways have become a passion, leading Kris to where he is today. Kris has worked for various organisations teaching bushcraft and traditional primitive skills for children and adults. He also has a background in other outdoor pursuits such as photography and the hidden uses of our native trees and plants. Kris has held many guided tours, taking people out to watch and learn about rare and sometimes elusive animals. Kris has a degree in conservation and environmental studies and can often be found writing articles on the environment and bushcraft (especially wild foods).

All of our instructors are carefully chosen to offer you a unique experience in the traditional art of bushcraft. You will be able to apply your skills anywhere in the British Isles and beyond.

What is bushcraft and how will your experience with us be different?

Bushcraft is learning to live in harmony with the natural environment. Bushcraft skills include recognising and gathering wild food; tracking; using hand tools; building shelter; making fire and constructing materials like string and rope from natural produce. A common misconception is that bushcraft and survival are the same, but they have important distinctions. Survival techniques are about just that, survival. However, bushcraft is a way of living at one with nature and harnessing its ways. Survival techniques fight against nature, whilst bushcraft teaches us to live with nature and become a part of it whilst adapting to the changing seasons.

We believe that it's very important to teach others about our environment. We offer a different school of bushcraft, created in order to bring you a mix of these traditional skills in a unique combination with other outdoor pursuits, such as wildlife watching, photography, conservation skills, country crafts and folklore. There is no better way of learning than actually getting outside and working with nature. Each of our courses and instructors will give you a clear understanding of how bushcraft and nature work and how we can live with them in a peaceful and united way.
