Oak is possibly one of the most traditional handle materials for knives and outdoor cutting tools. Oak timber is widely used in construction of houses and boats, often used for beams, pillars, posts, and of course wine casks, as well as traditional woodland crafts, such as the manufacture of charcoal. Oaks are wildly used for their strength and durability, it will literally last for thousands of years.
Oak Knife Handles
Oak is a great choice of knife handle material. The grain is pretty, but not so overly decorative that the handle outshines the blade. Knife handles made from oaks are incredibly tough, durable and will withstand heavy use with ease. Oak is a fantastic choice if you wish to stain the handle of your knife, and resins and glues will adhere to the surface easily, so fixing the tang of a knife in place is easy work. We supply our Oak in single blocks, or knife scales.
