For youngsters who are starting to learn how to carve, they sometimes find it easier and safer to use a potato peeler to begin with (Forest Schools, etc). This peeler is a traditional rugged type, with handle and double sided cutting blade. Many cheap peelers use soft metal, but these are tough, so should last much longer.
They are very sharp, and the end does come to a point, so please bear this in mind. And, of course they can be used to peel the veg too!
