PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Cold Steel Bushman has gained quite a reputation over the years for being a great and super-strong survival knife. In fact, it could very well be one of the strongest outdoor survival knives available in the world today. What makes the Cold Steel Bushman different is the fact that it has a hollow handle, a feature that will put most of us off instantly, but wait, the Cold Steel Bushman isn't like other knives. The hollow handle is the result of rolled 2.5mm SK-5 high-carbon steel, in effect, the handle is the tang of the knife and there is no joint. Tests have been carried out on this knife and it was found that where the handle ends and the blade begins (where I join usually would be) the Cold Steel Bushman was able to cope with forces over two tons before damage occurred - quite astonishing! The blade has been heat-treated and tempered to RC54. The blade has been hand-ground to a thin and sharp edge.

The hollow handle makes the knife exceptionally useful. It may be used to stow away survival equipment as shown in the picture (kit not included), or attached to poles to create a hunting spear in emergency survival situations - this isn't a survival technique that we recommend at Greenman Bushcraft though!

Cold Steel Bushman Knife and Firesteel

A recent addition to the Cold Steel Bushcraft knife is an improved sheath and firesteel. The new Secure-Ex sheath is made from a shock-resistant black plastic and has an automatic lock which secures the knife. Included on the side of sheath is a firesteel for creating fires in emergency situation with use of the back of the blade. Please note: We also offer a lower cost 'Bowie' style with a Cordura sheath and no firesteel.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

"This was my first purchase from both Greenman and Cold Steel and I have to say that I am happy with the service provided by this website and also the Bushman Bowie knife itself. I was a little unsure at first as the idea of having a knife designed for secondary use as a spear seemed like a crazy gimmick but at 25 I thought why not. I was not disappointed. The sheath is basic but strong and functional, the firesteel is decent not big but a nice bonus. The knife itself is light and comfortable in the hand, it arrived sharp (not shaving sharp but keen) out of the box. I don't baton with knives - I use a hatchet but gave it a go just to see if it could. The bushman flew through this test, it also cut rope and cordage easily, made firesticks with little effort and even took down a sapling from my garden with a few swings- in short it is a great all-round bushcraft knife. Though I have only basic skill it also makes a good throwing knife and yes for the hell of it I tried it out as a spear - again impressed with how easy it was to throw!!! For anyone serious about bushcraft go ahead and try this knife, yes it's not a Jacklore or an EnZo but at this price you get a tough big knife that will hold an edge well and take plenty of punishment. The only thing I would add is the handle does need to be wrapped in paracord or hockey grip tape as when wet the metal becomes slippery. I would recommend using Greenman and would be happy to try more of Cold Steel's other products based on my experience."
