Yet another fantastic bushcraft knife for the Norwegian knife makers, Helle. Gaupe is the Norwegian word for Lynx. The Helle Gaupe is a very fine bushcraft knife indeed. The Gaupe boasts a triple laminated stainless steel blade of 11cm. Triple laminated knife steel is preferred as it offers an exceptionally sharp cutting edge which it holds well.
Helle have billed this lovely looking knife as an 'all purpose' outdoor knife, and it's hard to disagree with this statement, as the shape of the blade and the overall feel in the hand is perfect for bushcraft, carving, game preparation and general hunting.
The handle is a shade over 11cm long and is made from a beautifully grained curly birch wood, which has been oiled to bring out the unique and pleasing blend of textures. There is a wooden finger guard present, but it's not overly cumbersome, like on some knives we see. The blades tang runs through the length of the wooden handle, so it's strong and reliable.
Included with the knife is a black, real leather sheath with belt loop. The leather knife sheath has the pattern of a lynx's footprint which has been delicately removed from the leather, and as shown in our picture, the curly birch knife handle makes this stand out when it's in the sheath.
All in all, the Helle Gaupe is a lovely bushcraft knife with a nice weight and feel. This tool will make a perfect outdoor survival knife for anyone who loves camping, bushcraft or hunting.
