Description

A large powerful and durable ground knife suitable for coarse work such as prizing, splitting small logs. A unique method for attaching the sheatharound a button on your work clothes means it does not loosen, but is easy to remove. The knife blade is manufactured in Japanese knife steel, 3 mm carbon steel that has been hardened to 58-60 HRC. This is an ideal bushcraft knife for those with large hands. The cutting edge has been sharpened with a double edge angle and a final honing on a leather strop. The handle and sheath are made of extra durable PP plastic. The sheath fits just as well on your belt as on your buttons. If your belt is thick, cut away the small pin on the cover. The heavy-duty knife is more robust and therefore has a larger sheath compared to other craftsman's knives.

A bargain at this price. It's got a very large size handle ,if that's what you need, textured for better grip in the wet and a good guard as well. Came sharp out of the packing and pleased to see that there was a secondary bevel ideal for the rough work that it was made for. The first cm of the tip, has been squared off, presumably to work well with a sparker. The weight, balance and heft are right for the job. It isn't a delicate carver but it could be used that way, if you took the time to re-jig the edge. The sheath has a good drainage hole and it holds the knife with a positive and secure seating. The sheath has been given a belt hanger which is designed to pops free but the odd thing is that , while it may be handy that there's a design point of not having to remove your belt through the belt loops to take the knife off.....but it is a point of failure in that access to the release lugs is always going to be jammed out of reach unless you happen to have been born with a long, sinister finger on a Hardy-Spicer coupling. One other thing I don't quite get, is the arrangement of hitching the sheath to a suitably placed button. I can't think that anyone is going to take the time to securely sew on a button each pair of work pants or jacket. All in all I can only commend the manufactures in that they have clearly listened to suggestions and have taken on board some certain design points but have lost something in their application and, perhaps, their relevance for a rough handed work knife. In conclusion, the knife is not ever going to be eye candy, but, for its intended purpose I wouldn't have anything else and therefore I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it. Lawrie
