When you're teaching out in the 'Boonies' you need a large outdoor tarp for groups, and there's quite simply no better choice than the Boonies Outdoor Parachute Tarp - a large and robust tarp to hoist up into the canopy and keep your kit dry and your groups sheltered.

These are the perfect choice of tarp for bushcraft courses, scout gatherings or any outdoor event. Available in two sizes, the Boonies Outdoor group shelters offer unbeatable coverage - either 4.5 meters or a massive 6 meter diameter.

Each tarp is constructed of a super-lightweight and durable 190T polyester with a PU Coating of 3,000mm which is 100% waterproof. The best part is they pack down to a small size and will easily fit inside of rucksacks.

Large Group Shelter Tarps, Instructions of use:

You will notice that the Boonies Outdoor Parachute Tarpaulin contains a central hole [approx. 17.62mm diameter]. This hole is present for three reasons - firstly, it is much stronger than an outer loop and it makes life easier when threading a rope from the outside in (tie a simple knot) before hoisting it into the woodland canopy. This central hole makes it easier to take the tarp down too. The second reason for the central hole is for use with a prop or pole - a simple woodland foraged pole is fine - this is not possible with a webbing loop! And lastly, the central hole makes life a whole lot easier when folding the tarp away as it helps express the trapped air, taking the hassle out of putting the tarp back into the compression sack (supplied).

There are 10 guy line fixing points on the 4.5m tarpaulin and 14 attachment points on the 6m group shelter. Each fixing point is reinforced and we recommend our 550 paracord as guy lines.

These large tarps are designed to be spread out loosely and not stretched over existing structures, and like ALL tarps, they're not resistant to flames.

hi with the Boonies Outdoor Parachute Shelter for Groups 6m, the top central hole, does it allow a fixing for a carabiner or a knot to hoist up to a central bow/hang line? or it is just a hollow hole? Thanks

Both the 4.5 and 6m tarp have a central hole. There is no loop - however, it's very easy to add one. Simply push a loop of cord/rope through the hole with a double knot on the underside of the tarp. This allows for a central loop to protrude from the top which can accommodate a carabiner, or allow for a ridgeline to pass through it. Should you require anything further, please just let us know.

I am looking for a new semi-permanent parachute shelter to hang in my Forest School site. I currently have a fixed line across the fire pit and tie my existing tarp out of the way to a tree when not in use. This means it is exposed to the elements (but gathered together) when not in use. How long might one of the Boonies tarps last if used in the same way. Thanks

Because of the size of these tarps, we don't recommend leaving them in place for longer than needed. They are designed to be taken down after use. The larger the tarp, the more potential for damage if left out in strong winds, etc. We do know of people that leave them in place, and they are generally fine - but should damage occur as a result of prolonged UV exposure, or high winds, the warranty would become void.

Hi, what is the diameter of the central hole on both sizes please? I have seen parachute shelters like this used before with a central fire down below, and the hole used as a means of chimney ventilation. Is this parachute suitable for this?

The central hole size is 17.62mm on both sizes. We don't recommend any tarp to be used with a fire underneath. As these tarps are large, the material is thin, much like a tent - as such, it would have the potential to melt should stray sparks/embers touch it.

If the tarp is suspended by a knotted rope/loop, does that mean there is no central ventilation for any smoke to escape through? I know it's not recommended to have fires, but mine will be far below the tarp. If there's no way for the smoke to escape upwards, I'm concerned that smoke will accumulate in the canopy, rather than dissipate upwards through the hole.

We're unable to recommend lighting a fire under any tarp. The central hole is designed as a point to hoist the tarp into the tree canopy. Whilst we have seen people use them with a fire, we, nor the manufacturers recommend this for safety and warranty reasons.
